Experience
I am a huge fan of the outdoors. I hike, fish, camp, backpack, swim, and, whenever possible, I bring my outside interests inside. As a fourth grade teacher of six years with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, my philosophy involves connecting learning to students' real-world hobbies, interests, and fun. When my students see me bringing my passions into the classroom, they get the message that it's okay for them to bring in their passions as well. If they don't get that message, then I actively encourage them to do so!Every subject, be it Math, Reading, Writing, Literature, Grammar, Science, Geography, or Social Studies, can be applied to some corner of a student's life. Helping my students to find those connections is the core of my teaching philosophy. I have applied this technique to all subjects with students ranging from kindergarteners to fifth graders, and I have seen it work. Students who are passionate and engaged are learning, and that is what education is all about. Learning does not have to be boring in order to be effective. It can tie into the joys of the real world and still be serious and useful. I look forward to sharing this philosophy through my tutoring sessions and finding new connections with each student.
