Education

My first degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I obtained this degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in December of 2011. During my time as an Undergraduate, I was consistently on the Dean’s List and graduated with a 3.5 GPA. In January of 2013, I returned to UNLV to begin my education coursework. As part of the Graduate Licensure Program, I simultaneously worked on a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as my teacher licensure. During the 2014-2015 school year, I served as a student teacher in a North Las Vegas High School, where I taught US Government to 12th Graders. My degree is expected to be conferred in December of 2015, with a 3.9 GPA.

Experience

I am a highly qualified tutor, having completed both social studies and education coursework at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. For the past year, I have been in the classroom as part of my student teaching requirement. During this time, I have designed and created student-centered lessons, which address the needs of all students. Also, I have implemented a variety of instructional tools such as same groups, videos, discussion and debate. During my experience, I have learned the value of data driven instruction, pre-assessments, formative assessments. This allows me to develop lessons that are cognitively challenging, yet appropriate for the students’ ability level. In addition to my student teaching, I have led after school tutoring sessions for my students which allowed me to tailor instruction to the individual needs of the student. Ultimately, I am driven by helping my students achieve their full potential. This is the driving force behind why I became a tutor and a teacher. In addition to my academic and practical experiences, I have worked in the legal and political field, where an extensive knowledge of the social studies are required. Having completed student teaching, I am preparing to transition into my role as high school social studies teacher in the Clark County School District for the upcoming school year. I have taken my Praxis Tests for teacher certification and have been given the ETS Recognition of Excellence Award for my scores in the social studies field. Overall, I am eager and excited to begin my work as a tutor and furthering my career as an education.
