I am a tutor with extensive experience studying and teaching German and Japanese. I graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in German. I am very passionate about linguistics and foreign languages. I began studying German when I was 13 years old. I have spent a lot of time at the Goethe Institut Dresden in Germany. In addition to German, I have also studied Japanese and French. I am adept at understanding how languages work and how they are related to each other. This has enabled me to tutor students. My philosophy as a tutor emphasizes helping people speak freely without having to be self-conscious. Learning a new language can be quite daunting. Thus, I encourage my students to just be themselves. While many people focus on grammar, I tend to focus on having my students actively engaged in speaking the language. Speaking a new language is a lot more fun than obsessing over every grammar mistake, and in the long run, it winds up being a lot more effective for the student. In my free time, I like to participate in extreme sports. I like to snowboard, whitewater canoe, and kayak. I also like to read and play the bass guitar.
