Experience

I earned an Associate of Science in Biology at Utah Valley University, being placed on the Deans List all five semesters before moving to Seattle for school and a future career. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Washington - Seattle and am now preparing to enter medical school. I have many hours of research involving cell pigmentation and novel mutations as well as the pathology and genetics of Alzheimer's Disease. I have an abundance of experience in volunteering and a strong passion for philanthropy and helping underserved populations, and have a goal of one day heading a charitable healthcare organization. I also have a passion for tutoring and helping people overcome struggles and frustrations that come along with learning challenging subjects. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student transition from feelings of inadequacy and helplessness to accomplishment and confidence. I have tutored several people in biology, biochemistry, and genetics. I have a large variety of teaching tools and techniques I use to help teach the complex topics. I pride myself in my ability to adjust to the learning styles of my students and my supplemental outside resources I provide. I have extensive experience in a practical laboratory setting, and have been a member of two different labs studying pigmentation pathways and the pathology of Alzheimer's Disease. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 19 after failing my first year of college. I learned strong management techniques, changed my study habits, learned to reduce distractions I can control and how to minimize those I can't. I returned to school and have maintained a 3.6 GPA and Dean's List standing between two different universities. I will be completing my B.S. of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Washington this December, and am currently applying to medical schools. I have transformed my academic experience and learned how to cope with having ADHD in academically-rigorous settings.
