Education

Graduated high school with a 2.8 GPA from Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, VA in 2007. Attended the University of Essex, in Colchester, UK, and graduated with a degree in English Literature with Honors in 2014. My grade standing is a 2:1 on the English scale, approximately a 3.2 GPA. I received my Permaculture certification from Bustan Qaraaqa in 2012.

Experience

I was a nanny and tutor for the past year for three children ranging from the ages 3 to 9 years old. I tutored them in their basic subjects; mathematics, science, social studies, reading and writing. I also tutored them in extracurricular subjects mainly pertaining to the arts; painting, drawing, perspective, sculpture, music, art history, singing and song-writing. My SAT scores were in the top 10 percentile for reading and writing. My AP scores for world history, literature and art were 4, 5 and 5 respectively. My IB scores for Philosophy and Art were 6 and 8 respectively. I would like to be a tutor because I prefer as close to one on one interaction as possible. I believe that forming a good relationship between a teacher and a student is one of the most important things to accomplish for both to grow. My philosophy of teaching is based on mutual learning, respect and understanding, no matter how old you are. While I do have a degree I have also audited quite a few classes and attended many lecture series all over the world. I have shown and sold my paintings in London and Washington D.C.. I have performed as a singer and song-writer in; London, Limerick, Amman, Jerusalem, Frankfurt, Washington D.C. and Denver. I play the Celtic harp and the guitar and create my own compositions. I am also an accomplished poet and editor, and have edited two books by Tony Tackling in preparation for publication, as well as my own poems being published in small magazines in the UK and France. Salutations! My name is Abigail, but most people just call me Abby. I have many interests and hobbies, my wackiest one is reading up on theoretical physics, despite my ineptitude with mathematics. I also love to cook, bake, knit, make jewellery, sew and design clothes, read, write, play music, write music, toe painting (yes, it is painting with your toes), invent wacky instruments, go on walks, swim, watch BBC period dramas (Downton Abbey anyone) and asian cinema, I love reading old comics and graphic novels, and most of all I love to TRAVEL, try new things and have adventures.
